Trevor Sellick was born in England in 1945 and trained at the Grimsby School of Art. In 1969 he moved to Australia with his wife Jocelyn and baby daughter Juliet.
In 1986, after his first marriage ended, he met Meegan Bussey who was studying art at RMIT and they married a year later.
Trevor returned to Europe with Meegan in the 1980s to study in Florence and London. It was from his London studio where he created a series of Florentine images on canvas that became the central theme of his first solo exhibition.
The 1990s saw Trevor devote his time to painting a series of inner suburban Melbourne landscapes as well as the Victorian countryside.
In the later part of his life, Trevor frequently travelled back to England to explore the aesthetics of the towns and countryside of his youth. From these exploratory sketches, he created numerous paintings and drawings.
Trevor is survived by his five children Juliet, Terry, Caryn, Peregrine and Lucinda.
Trevor is represented in collections in Australia, Britain and Japan.
A Tribute to Trevor
Paul Morgan
“Trevor was one of nature’s gentlemen. Older than me, he seemed eternally boyish. Peter Pan with a roll-up cigarette in his hand. There was a full head of hair and an impish expression. He had a modesty and curiosity about the world… “
